Guarding the Gospel, Gathered in Worship
1 Timothy 2:9-15 (NASB)
- Guarding the Gospel With Godliness
1 Timothy 2:9 Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, 10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness.
- Guarding the Gospel, Grounded in Genesis
1 Timothy 2:11 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. 12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.
Gender is Holy - “Image of God” Genesis 1:27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
“Very Good” Genesis 1:31 God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
Therefore 1 Timothy 2:9-15 is Universal, Not Cultural
Male Headship Reflects Christ’s Headship Over All!
1 Corinthians 11:3 But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ.
Ephesians 4:15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,
Ephesians 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He
Himself being the Savior of the body.
Order in Worship
Scripture supports complementarianism, not egalitarianism
