"Fulfilled in Christ: The Old is Gone, the New Has Come"
Matthew 1:1-25
Purpose: Because Jesus fulfills God's prophesies, only in Jesus are we fulfilled!
1. Beginning With The End in Mind: God's Mission Fulfilled in Christ!
Because Jesus Perfectly fulfills God's Plan, We are saved today
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you 1always, even to the end of the age."
Acts 2:22 "Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know "” 23 this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of 1godless men and put Him to death. 24 "But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held 3in its power.
Jesus is the end of the law and God's Amen! (Paul)
Rom. 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
2Cor. 1:20 For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore also through Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us.
Jesus fulfills all things written in the Law, Prophets, and Psalms (The Gospel of Luke)
Luke 24:44 Now He said to them, "These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled." 45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and He said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
Jesus is with us to the end of the age as we make disciples of all nations!

3. Matthew's Gospel: Jesus Fulfills the Law and Prophets!
Matthew's Main Theme: The kingdom of heaven has come and Jesus is the Messiah = Christ = King = "Anointed One." This is proven by the way that Jesus' life and ministry, in every detail, is a fulfillment of all of the OT. Jesus came to fulfill the Law. Matthew 5:17 "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill." He is the fulfillment and He Himself fulfills.
Matthew's Discipleship Theme: The true disciple is one who understands Jesus Christ and His teachings as opposed to others around Him who consistently fail to understand. A true disciple is persecuted and perseveres, he "keeps on keeping on" even when there is persecution. False followers fall away. We may not know the difference between the "tares" and the "wheat" until the time of "harvest."
